Choosing a Niche Market to Build Your SiteShort URL: http://scottpdaugherty.com/9 Niche Marketing, Choosing Keywords, keyword research, niche campaign, ecommerce niche
What is the point of starting an online business? To make money, of course. We don't start a business just for the sake of business. In traditional brick and mortar businesses, we have all heard the saying, "Location, Location, Location." Well, the same is almost true, except the saying should be "Keywords, Keywords, Keywords." When we start a brick and mortar business, we want to receive as much traffic as possible. If we put our business in a poor location, we can either look to barely get by or, even worse, to fail miserably. The same is true when we start an online business. If our site gets absolutely no traffic, there is no possible way that we can look to be a success. How do we get traffic, you say? Sure there are many black methods out there to get traffic but when you get caught (Note: I did say when you get caught, not if), you can expect to lose all search engine rankings and to lose a lot of traffic and business. On the bright side, before we ever build our online business, we can use a couple of wonderful tools to actually build a business with the right keywords and start the business off right from the beginning. For instance, I built a site a few years back that sold green fuel technologies. Before building the site, I researched the keywords and built the site aiming for several possible keyword combinations. Within a month of being online, I broke the $7500 mark in sales. Within 6 months, I had accumulated over $40,000 in online sales. Before the end of the first year, I was made an offer on the site that I couldn't refuse and sold the whole business out. How do you study keywords? You can go to Wordtracker for an easy-to-use keyword analysis. You can enter a single keyword or phrase and get results of other phrases that are similar to the phrase that you enter, but get loads more traffic. Once you have the choices narrowed down, register your domains with those keywords in the domain name. (Make sure that you don't register a copyrighted or trademark name as you will surely lose this domain in court, along with a ton of money in legal fees.) Build your site with keyword rich content. Make sure that you have an official blog for your site so that you can update it daily or every other day. You can download Wordpress for free and use it at no charge with your site. If you are using a self-hosted shopping cart, you may have to hire a programmer to help you, but it doesn't hurt to query your database for keywords related to your blog post. Have the product link and picture appear in your post or just at the end of the post so that your visitor knows that you sell the product that they are looking for! Continue to study keywords and build more and more pages based on current keyword analysis and you will see a steady stream of traffic visiting your site and you will also see a steady stream of customers, some for life, who will buy products from you over and over again.
